It has been over a year since the previous issue of the IARCS Newsletter was published. During this period of silence, the organizational structure of IARCS has undergone some changes. Following the adoption of the IARCS constitution, a new Council has been nominated. The members of the new Council are listed to the left.

The first general meeting of IARCS under the new Council takes place at FSTTCS 2000 in Delhi this December. Please do try to attend this meeting and contribute your suggestions on how to make IARCS a more effective force in promoting education and research in Computer Science in India. If you are not already a member, see the last page for information on how to join IARCS.

In this edition of the newsletter, we have an inside look at the Simputer project from Bangalore. Also included are several reports on conferences and workshops held during the past six months as well as announcements of forthcoming events.
