The two weeks at Bangalore provided quite a stimulating and
exciting diet: elegant theorems, deep inequalities,
wonderful results. Pity all the more that the follow up has
once again left much wanting: no notes have been assembled
(with one honourable exception - the TIFR group's fine
collection on entropy [1]), no serious
collaborations were initiated and no follow-up study seems
to have been undertaken in the aftermath. It was once again
a case of too many other things overtaking our lives. How
can we set that right the next time?
Talking of next time, we feel that this series of workshops
should be continued apace. Plenty of topics remain to be
explored fully (some form this workshop, others conspicuous
left-outs like Markov chain techniques) and this is, we have
to repeat yet again, the best opportunity for Indian
researchers to gather together and discuss the frontiers of
research.
