Introduction

The Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS) invites proposals from college and university teachers for organizing short instructional schools in Computer Science. These schools are intended to help bridge the gap between the foundational computer science education available to many students and the knowledge required for higher studies, research, and industry. They are designed to provide focused, in-person instruction on important topics in Computer Science, particularly foundational areas. The courses are expected to be 2–3 days long with one or two instructors. Proposals for foundational courses will get preference over proposals on other topics.

The courses will be organized by a host institute (a local college or a university), providing the topic, proposal and all the local logistics. The primary beneficiaries will be the faculty and students of the host institute and colleges nearby. The process of selecting participants is left to the host institute. IARCS will help in finding instructors for the topic and will take care of the travel (within India) and honorarium of the instructors.

Timeline for the Current Call

  • Application deadline: September 5, 2026
  • Notification of decision: September 25, 2026
  • Tentative period for schools: October 2026 – January 2027 (flexible)

Possible topics for the courses

  • Mathematical Foundations and Algorithms: Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory, Data Structures and Algorithms, Randomized Algorithms, Combinatorial Optimization.

  • Formal Methods and Programming Languages: Logic, Automata and Computability, Automated Theorem Proving, Basics of Formal Verification, Programming Language Theory, Compilers.

  • Emerging Areas: Cryptography, Quantum Computing, Theory of Machine Learning.

Institutions can also request topics related to Computer Science not listed above.

Application Process

Who can apply:

Any teacher (or a group of teachers) affiliated as faculty member(s) to academic institution(s) in India having computer science related programs.

How to apply:

Send email to courses@iarcs.org.in along with the details requested in the prescribed format.

Once IARCS receives the proposal, the committee will review the proposal and approve it if found suitable (they might also suggest other potential instructors). At this stage, the organizers must write to the instructors, copying courses@iarcs.org.in, and obtain confirmation for the course.

Once the instructors confirm, IARCS should be informed and the course can be organized.

After completion:

After the school has concluded, the organizers are requested to send a report to IARCS, including:

  • List of attendees with role and affiliation
  • Feedback from instructors and, if available, attendees.
